Lagarto

The objective of the Lagarto Project is to produce an open license paleographic transcription of El Libro de los Epítomes via crowdsourcing; the emphasis is on having the full text as soon as possible. Partial drafts are published immediately with the appropriate status. The markup is at the level of multilingual parallel segments (§10), chunks of text semantically and syntactically complete, finer granularity will be addressed later. Other data is also structured to facilitate programatic processing.

Transcribers can focus on transcribing as the Lagarto Epitome Format is a very simple and it can be created with any editor or wordprocessor: transcribers do not have to deal with IT aspects. The Lagarto System generates a Libro de los Epítomes Dossier, an interlinked environment adapted to web browsers that is also a transcribing-aid tool with an appropiate visual presentation; for example, it contains:

The Lagarto Project is a multiyear longterm project where successive passes would refine the data and the Lagarto System. It would probably be driven by demands from other disciplines. The vocation is of a permanent multidisciplinary resource.
